Flying Forest plants trees to help neutralise carbon emissions created by flying. Whilst planting trees is not the complete solution
to global warming, it helps. And the planet needs every assistance we can
give it. Floating Forest While the emissions caused by aircraft have attracted considerable publicity, those created by shipping have largely escaped attention, until recently. Responding to a number of approaches to do something about this issue, Flying Forest is about to launch Floating Forest. Floating Forest aims to offset some of the emissions created by the shipping industry and will embrace all elements of the industry, i.e. cargo vessels, tankers, cruise liners, ferries and leisure craft. Floating Forest is already attracting enthusiastic support from within the industry. Mark Dickinson, assistant general secretary of Nautilus UK, the union for maritime professionals, said “Floating Forest is a very interesting development one we have encouraged and supported from the outset, and I am hopeful we can become involved on an ongoing basis to ensure it is taken up by the industry.” The scheme will enable the shipping world to very visibly show the public, governments, clients and passengers that the shipping industry, while vital for world trade, is not unsympathetic to the plight of the planet and is actively doing something about it. The scheme will not only emphasise the industry¹s vital contribution to world trade but also its commitment to be environmentally responsible. Floating Forest welcomes contact with people within the shipping industry to discuss this initiative. To discuss Floating Forest contact info@flyingforest.org
Help us plant as many trees as possible. Flying Forest have tried to keep contributing to our tree planting programmes as easy and as simple as possible. While we could have incorporated a carbon calculator to give the impression of working out precisely how much you could contribute, we felt this was too complicated and frankly not accurate enough. There are so many variables; how full is the plane, how old is the plane, etc. All of these have a bearing on your carbon footprint. RETURN SHORT-HAUL FLIGHT £10 ( Approx. €12
/ $20)
Which? Report on Carbon Offsetting. The March 2008 edition of Which?, the UK consumer organisation’s magazine, reviewed a number of carbon offset schemes, including Flying Forest. In line with their observations Flying Forest are now able to report that every £10 contributed will enable us to plant a minimum of 4 trees. In some cases, more.
One of the reasons we do what we do. This is an email we received from Walter Hangula, headmaster of one of the schools where Flying Forest has planted trees: Dear Colleagues
